Age 5 is a general guide, but every child is different. During the trial lesson, we assess readiness based on factors such as maturity, attention span, and physical development. We welcome complete beginners as well as children with previous musical experience.
Unlike many studios that offer 30-minute beginner lessons, our Beginners lessons are a full 60 minutes, allowing us to maintain high standards and cover far more than just learning pieces. Lessons in our Grade 1–8 programme are either 30 or 60 minutes, depending o the student's level, goals, and individual needs.
At least 20–30 minutes, 4 times per week. Consistent practice is one of the biggest factors in a student's success. Like any skill, the more your child practises, the more they will progress and enjoy seeing their improvement. From Grade 3 onwards, we typically expect around 1 hour of daily practice to support the increased technical and musical demands of the higher grades.
Every child progresses at a different pace. Most students complete the Beginners Programme within 18–24 months and reach approximately Grade 1–2 standard. Regular home practice remains the biggest factor influencing progress.
Parents often underestimate how much effort is involved in learning an instrument. The Beginners Programme usually takes longer than expected, and Grade 1 is more demanding than many realise.
Unlike some studios that focus primarily on teaching just exam pieces, we ensure our students also develop strong sight-reading, technique, theory, creativity, and a broad repertoire. Our holistic approach develops confident, independent pianists with skills for life - not just students who can play a few exam pieces.
Yes! Students are encouraged to participate in our recitals and care home performances, helping them build confidence, stage presence, and performance skills. Even beginners can take part.
Missed lessons are not refunded or rescheduled, even with advance notice. Your child's lesson time is reserved exclusively for them each week, and our teachers are paid to reserve those lessons in advance. As our timetable is full with a waiting list, missed lessons cannot be reallocated.
Regular attendance is essential for consistent progress. We follow Bromley school term dates to help families plan ahead and maximise attendance throughout the year. Please read our Studio Policy Agreement for full details.
