Piano lessons for Children (Grades 1-8)
Keys to Success: Your Child's Piano Journey
We offer a well-structured piano pathway designed to set students up for long-term success.
Stage 1: BEGINNERS to GRADE 1 | Beginners Piano Classes All beginners start in Beginners Piano program which will typically take students up to ABRSM Grade 1–2 level before transitioning into private 1:1 lessons for more advanced study.
Stage 2: ABRSM GRADE 1 to 8 | Private 1:1
Private lessons for students aged 5+ are tailored to each student and include technique, music reading, improvisation, composition, scales, rhythm, theory and performance skills - ensuring a well-rounded piano education.
Unlike many music tuition providers, we don’t just teach exam pieces after exam pieces. No shortcuts and no “fast-tracking” at the expense of proper development of core skills. Students learn a broad, well-balanced repertoire.
We proudly maintain a guaranteed ABRSM pass rate, with many students achieving Merits and Distinctions. Exams are always optional.
Are you tired of hearing your child play the same three or four exam pieces over and over again? Ever wondered why those are the only pieces they seem able to play?
Many transfer students come to us having learned only a handful of exam pieces per grade - what we call the “exam factory” approach sometimes adopted by other music studios. They may hold Grade 1 or even Grade 3 certificates yet still struggle to read music fluently, learn new pieces independently, or play without finger numbers and note letters written above the score.
A common sign is "autopilot playing" - students can perform familiar exam pieces from memory but cannot confidently start from the middle of the piece, recover from mistakes, or tackle unfamiliar repertoire. Many have spent years polishing a small number of pieces rather than developing broader musical skills.
Unfortunately, exam certificates can sometimes give the impression that a student is progressing comprehensively, when important foundations such as reading, rhythm, aural and listening skills, scales and arpeggios, theory, and technique may still be underdeveloped because they have largely been skipped in favour of rushing through exam pieces.
While exams can be valuable milestones, they should never be the sole focus of music education.
At our studio, students develop fluent music reading, strong technique, rhythm, listening skills, theory knowledge, and a broad repertoire beyond just exam pieces. We prioritise secure foundations and genuine understanding over rushing through exam grades. Music theory is also integrated into every student’s development, at no extra charge.
That said, we are proud to prepare students for ABRSM examinations from Grades 1–8, with a 100% pass rate and many students achieving Merits and Distinctions.
"True musical literacy is our priority. I've seen far too many students fast-tracked through exams who sadly cannot read music fluently. Our goal is to ensure every student develops confident reading skills alongside strong technique and real musical understanding." - Emi

ABRSM Graded Examinations
We follow the ABRSM syllabus for Grades 1–8, covering pieces, scales, sight‑reading, and aural skills. Exams are optional, with two formats:
Practical Grades (in-person): Perform 3 pieces, plus scales, sight-reading, and aural tests
Performance Grades* (online): Submit a video of 4 pieces.
Scores out of 150: 100 to pass, 120 for Merit, 130 for Distinction.
Higher grades require more commitment. From Grade 2+, we recommend 60‑minute weekly lessons. To progress to Grades 6–8, passing Grade 5 Music Theory is mandatory.
* Even for Performance Grades, we still teach scales, sight‑reading, and aural skills for a well rounded music education.
