Piano lessons for kids 1:1

We offer 1:1 piano lessons for children at ABRSM Grade 1 and above, while beginners can start with our fun Group Piano classes.

Keys to Success: Your child's piano journey

BEGINNERS: Group Piano Classes
A fun, engaging, accelerated and structured introduction to music and piano fundamentals.

GRADE 1 to GRADE 8: Private 1:1 Lessons

  • Level 1: Grades 1–3
  • Level 2: Grades 4–5
  • Level 3: Grades 6–8

We teach children aged 5 and up, as younger kids may lack the focus and concentration needed for effective learning. Giving your child the gift of music fosters cognitive skills like memory and problem-solving, which benefits other academic areas. Our 1:1 lessons cover technique, music reading, aural skills, rhythm, improvisation, and performance, tailored to each student’s needs. ABRSM exams are optional for those wanting certification. We are DBS-checked and first aid trained for a safe learning environment.

Lessons are 30-60 minutes a week, designed to build your confidence, establish effective practice routines, and make learning enjoyable. We can also explore exams to track your progress and boost your confidence.

Our approach is patient and flexible, ideal for the busy schedules of adult learners. Many choose morning or lunchtime sessions, especially if working from home.

ABRSM Graded Examinations

For students pursuing piano proficiency, I follow the ABRSM syllabus, which includes eight graded exams covering pieces, scales, arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests. Scores out of 150:

  • 100 to pass
  • 120 for Merit
  • 130 for Distinction

Students may take ABRSM Piano Grades 1-8 exams in two formats:

  • Performance Grades (online): Submit a video of 4 pieces.
  • Practical Grades (in-person): Perform 3 pieces, plus scales, sight-reading, and aural tests

Exams are optional for leisure learners, but higher grades require greater commitment. For Grades 2 and above, I recommend weekly 45-min to one-hour lessons. Find exam dates and fees here: ABRSM Exam Dates and Fees.

Note: To take Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7, or 8 exams, you must first pass Grade 5 Music Theory.
